Even though Boston College is ahead in the S-Curve ranking system, I’ve decided to put VCU in ahead of them. I actually debated between Clemson and Boston College all morning, but after reviewing the rankings and VCU’s resume, I believe that the committee will reward their 3 top 50 wins and their good play in the CAA tournament. Clemson and Boston College don’t have the top 50 wins that the committee has emphasized in previous years.
There are some seed changes in this bracket. West Virginia was switched with Georgetown to avoid a second round rematch with Purdue. Penn State was moved to a 9, with Xavier being moved up to an 8. Penn State needed to be in the West Region, but UCLA also needed to be in the West to avoid their own bracket conflicts. Also, Michigan State moves back to a 10 because of conference conflicts, so Memphis was moved up to a 9.

Bracket Update

As of right now, I have the last 6 teams in as Colorado, UAB, Georgia, Florida St, Virginia Tech, and Boston College.
Running through some scenarios, if Richmond loses tomorrow, it looks like they will be the last team in and Boston College will be bumped. If Utah St loses tonight and Richmond loses tomorrow, I have Utah St in, Richmond and BC out.
Here are the last 5 teams out: VCU, Marshall, Clemson, USC, Alabama.
I have Penn St in as an 8 seed by the way, I don’t see how they don’t make the tournament at this point. Also, the S-Curve formula gives a bonus to teams that win their regular-season and conference tournament, which is why Florida is listed as a #1 seed. It doesn’t look like they’ll get it, so I’ll have to alter this part of the formula for next year.
Full bracket either late tonight or in the morning, then the final bracket after the 1:00 games tomorrow.
